FLORIDA STATE LICENSED ELECTRICAL & LOW VOLTAGE CONTRACTOR

Protect Entry Lanes From Wrong-Way Traffic

Our in-house team excavates, wires, and commissions traffic-control systems that help deter wrong-way entry, manage tailgating risk, and regulate parking flow. From gated communities and parking structures to high-security logistics facilities, including Miami International Airport Free Zone, we deliver traffic-control installation under one accountable contract.

Stop Wrong-Way Traffic Before Damage

Traffic control systems need the right load rating, roadway geometry, and operating speed for each lane. We install four primary configurations.

In-Ground Flush-Mount Traffic Spikes

For distribution centers, cargo terminals, exit plazas, and high-security facilities, reinforced steel top plates and spring-loaded or counterweighted teeth sit flush in concrete. Rated for AASHTO H-20 traffic up to 32,000 pounds per axle, they allow authorized one-way travel with drain ports and optional heaters to reduce debris buildup.

Surface-Mount Modular Traffic Spike Sections

For parking garages and properties where excavation is restricted, high-visibility steel or composite ramp sections with integrated speed-bump profiles bolt directly to asphalt or concrete. They slow approaching vehicles to 5 MPH and provide one-way tire defense without concrete saw-cutting.

High-Speed Commercial Barrier Arm Gates

For parking garages, toll plazas, visitor lanes, and employee lots, aluminum, carbon-fiber, or LED-illuminated arms span 8 to 16 feet and open in 1.5 to 2.5 seconds. Continuous-duty brushless DC gearboxes use breakaway flanges to protect internal motor shafts from vehicle impact.

Motorized Active Retractable Spike Systems

For entry gates requiring scheduled two-way traffic or emergency clearance, electromechanical drives operate retractable spikes within galvanized underground steel troughs. The spikes lower flush for valid credentials, visitor intercom calls, or emergency siren sensor activation, then raise after the vehicle clears.

Wrong-Way Control Starts Below Pavement

Reliable wrong-way control depends on correctly installed loops, saw-cuts, and drainage. Our in-house team installs the pavement work and control components together.

Directional A-B Inductive Loop Sequencing

Standard loops detect presence; paired A-B loops confirm direction. The controller identifies which loop activates first, distinguishing authorized travel from wrong-way attempts and keeping barrier arms closed until the sequence is valid.

Concrete Saw-Cutting & Loop Encapsulation

Our in-house crews saw-cut precise channels into asphalt or concrete driveways, lay continuous stranded copper loop wire, and seal channels with commercial-grade polyurethane loop sealant to prevent water infiltration and wire shifting.

Integrated Drainage & Cleanout Channels

South Florida rain can carry sand and debris into flush-mount spike troughs. Where site conditions require it, we add drainage and cleanout provisions to help prevent standing water and keep moving components clear.

Clear Warning Signage, Safer Entry Lanes

Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) warning signs and controlled lane design help prevent wrong-way entry and reduce liability.

  • Warning Signs: Reflective MUTCD-compliant signs warn drivers before spike zones.
  • Speed Control: Approach speed bumps slow vehicles below 5 MPH.
  • Signal Lights: LED red/green signals tell drivers when to proceed.
  • Emergency Access: For motorized spike systems, Knox Box key switches and compatible emergency siren sensors can lower spikes for first responders.

Vehicle approach speeds and safety are tested before commissioning.

One Install From Cut to Control

Total Entry Control Systems is a licensed Florida Electrical Contractor (ET11000945). Our in-house team handles pavement work, power, controls, and commissioning as one coordinated installation.

Trough Excavation

We layout roadway geometry, saw-cut asphalt or reinforced concrete slabs, excavate drainage trenches, and form equipment pads to manufacturer load specifications.

Steel Trough Foundation

We set heavy-gauge galvanized steel spike housings, plumb drainage lines, and pour high-strength 4,000 PSI concrete collars around the unit to support continuous truck traffic.

Power & Control Wiring

Our electricians pull dedicated electrical feeds in rigid PVC conduit, install NEMA 4X-rated weather-sealed control cabinets, and terminate low-voltage safety loops.

System Commissioning

We test directional loop sensitivity, calibrate barrier-arm motor limits, verify traffic-light sequencing, and document complete system operation before handover.

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to common questions regarding tire damage safety, spike mechanisms, heavy truck ratings, drainage maintenance, and power outages.

Will traffic spikes damage emergency vehicles or school buses traveling in the correct direction?

No. When traveling in the authorized direction, vehicle tires depress the spring-loaded or weighted teeth smoothly beneath the roadway surface. The teeth only puncture tires when a vehicle travels in the opposite, unauthorized direction.

Spring-loaded teeth use internal stainless steel compression springs to return teeth upward after a tire passes. Counterweighted teeth use gravity weights instead of springs, reducing mechanical wear in heavy truck lanes. Motorized spikes use electric motor drives to raise or lower teeth on command for controlled two-way lanes.

Yes. Our flush-mount in-ground traffic spike systems are engineered to AASHTO H-20 standards, which certify them to support axle loads of up to 32,000 lbs, making them fully compliant for loaded concrete mixers, freight haulers, and sanitation vehicles.

Our installations include bottom-mounted cleanout ports and drain pipes connected to surrounding grade or storm drains. During quarterly preventative maintenance, our technicians flush the trough and lubricate all internal pivot pins to ensure smooth tooth rotation.

Yes. Our commercial barrier arm operators feature 24V DC brushless motors with integrated battery backup systems. During electrical power outages, the barrier gate can be configured to remain in battery-operated service for up to 1,000 cycles or fail open automatically to maintain free traffic flow.
